From the Energy Studies Minor, to specialized concentrations like Energy, Finance, Law and Science, McCombs provides a comprehensive education in energy economics, finance and policy. The KBH Energy Center is a collaboration between the Cockrell School of Engineering, Jackson School of Geosciences, McCombs School of Business and Texas School of Law. It brings together top thought leaders from energy, academia and government to explore key issues and trends, including the business and economic aspects of energy development and entrepreneurship. The Center supports undergraduate and graduate programs that equip future leaders with the knowledge to navigate the evolving energy landscape.

Bureau of Economic Geology

The Bureau of Economic Geology, as part of the Jackson School of Geosciences, focuses on the economic implications of research related to Texas’ natural resources to inform decision-makers across industry, government and other sectors. Bureau economists research and analyze all aspects of energy value chains and markets, study the economic impact of protecting the environment and provide critical insights into the costs and potential returns of activities involving natural resources both in Texas and globally. The Bureau functions as the state geological survey of Texas.

Austin Technology Incubator (ATI)

Founded in 1989, ATI is a leader in energy and cleantech incubation. It empowers entrepreneurs to commercialize innovations, particularly in sustainability, energy, mobility, water, the circular economy and food/ag tech. ATI connects investors and community professionals with researchers, faculty and students through mentoring and networking opportunities and leads the I-Corps Southwest Region Hub to equip researchers with entrepreneurial skills.
